Girls shoot girl
Photography, Exhibition, Book “as Fashion”
A series of photos with the collaboration of poet Lyuba Yakimchuk (art group STAN) was made for the exhibition of Ukrainian contemporary art and poetry named “Girls shoot girls” in 2008.
The series references the scandal episodes of the presidential election in Ukraine in 2004. That was the first experience for the Ukrainians to witness a grand media сampaigning of two opponents (pro-Russian and pro-Ukrainian). That election ended up in the Orange Revolution in 2004.
Nude female portraits allude to the folk image of a Ukrainian woman actively used in political statements. The naked defenceless country that is "covered" with the "national idea" of long hair braided and flag. The popular media narrative of Ukraine being a tool in the Big Game is shown through the collections of naive symbols: a bottle of vodka as a Russia, and potatoes from McDonald's as the USA, symbols of communism are also present.
